Analysis of Biden's COVID-19 Timeline

With the distribution and administration of vaccines making good progress in the United States of America, President Joe Biden has laid out some more targets that he wishes the Americans will be able to meet. With these new goals in mind, it is important to look back on what he had said right when he took office, to see if he has been truthful. These goals are important to keep in mind so that we can aim closer to ending this pandemic which has plagued the globe for more than a year.

On March 11, President Biden gave a live speech which was televised regarding the timeline he had in mind for vaccinations. He wishes for all of the US to let adults who are eligible to receive the vaccine take the vaccine by May 1st. They also hope to have enough vaccine doses for the entire adult population of the country by May 31st. This puts them on the path of letting life return to a semblance of the normal it was before the pandemic by July 4th, where the Biden administration says small groups can gather to celebrate the day. In his speech, the president says the CDC will lay out guidelines for people who have been vaccinated moving forward until July 4th. He also plans to help schools reopen, something he has been talking about for weeks.

In response to his plans, President Biden has clear ways in which he will help all of the states. Even though the states will be helped, governors all over the country have been voicing their needs for vaccines. Instead of immediately opening vaccination slots to the public, they are still going to vaccinate the people more susceptible to severe cases of the virus-like seniors and people with disabilities - before getting shots to all adults. To help the different states, the administration is hoping to increase the number of places people can go to in order to receive their shots, which means shipping vaccines to health centers located in different communities that weren’t able to administer doses before. He also plans on dispatching active-duty troops so that they can have more hands to administer doses so more people can be vaccinated each day. In order to help people find places to receive their vaccine and to book appointments, the administration will be creating a website to help people find locations where they can be vaccinated. In order to help open up schools safely, the American Rescue plan was passed so that schools around the country would split $130 billion to aid opening schools. They also hope to get all teachers vaccinated and to test the students when they arrive on campus.

Now that we have covered the president’s speech on March 11, we must reflect upon what he had promised before and if he has delivered on it. So far, he has delivered on his promise of getting the public their stimulus checks, which was only passed March 10th. He has also delivered on his promise of administering 100 million doses of the vaccines within his first 100 days of being president. He has rejoined the World Health Organization, something that he had promised before taking office. He has also mandated the use of masks on federal property, something he did right when taking office. He is still in the process of opening up most schools, making vaccination clinics mobile, giving more guidelines for the pandemic, and giving more people access to healthcare.

With all of this information in mind, the US is making progress in this pandemic. Americans are in a better state than they were just a few months ago, and that is extremely promising. If we hold on a little longer - a few more months - by wearing masks and socially distancing and receiving vaccines if we are eligible for them, then we will return to a new type of normal during the summer. We must not get ahead of ourselves and do as much as we can to help the frontline workers who are working incredibly hard during this pandemic.

Until next time, Keerthana
