Mask Making Instructions

This project will be over a span of 4 weeks. In these four weeks you will be required to order or pick up materials from us, sew your masks or make your face shields, and lastly transfer those masks/ face shields to us.  We have provided instructions on when and how to do these things down below, so please take the time to read through the instructions.

You can also make face shields and package, so if you’re interested in doing that, just send us an email, and we’ll give you that doc.

So before you go any further, make sure to do the following.

WEEK 1:

Do the following your first week...

  1. Choose Your Target:

First of all, choose a target for yourself on how many of either masks or face shields you think you can make in these 4 weeks. It can be 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, or more; it’s up to you.  Make sure to pick a number you think you can follow through on.

After you’ve decided, fill out this form to tell us how many you can make.

  1. Order/Collect Materials:

Based on your target, you’ll need to order materials. If you have already made masks (for us) and live in the Bay Area, we will supply you with fabric. Either way, make sure to order Elastic.

Here are the links to where you can buy the materials, kindly only buy from these websites/sellers.

  • Fabric: Based off your target: 1 yard= 10 masks, 2 yards= 20 masks, etc.
(if you live in the bay area, we will supply this to you)

  • Elastic: 20 yards

  • OPTIONAL: Hand-held Sewing Machine: This is recommended, since it will make stitching much faster/easier.

  1. Prep Materials:

Once materials arrive or have been dropped off, you will need to start prepping the materials. The fabric will be needed to cut in rectangles. The elastics will be needed to cut into smaller pieces. The exact dimensions can be found in this tutorial. We recommend to have all the fabric and elastic cut out before you start mask-making, since this job is time consuming.

  1. Send us a Confirmation Email

Once you have decided when your four weeks will begin, what your mask target is, etc., you will need to send us an email regarding this information and confirming that you will be joining the team. We recommend using this outline we created, since it is short and gets to the point. Send this to, onemaskonelifeoneworld@gmail.com

WEEK 2- WEEK 4:

Here are the following things you need to do from the second week to the last week.

  1. Mask-Making

These 3 weeks will be dedicated to making masks. Instructions on how to make these masks can be found in this tutorial. This video provides directions on how to create three different designs of masks. You can either of these three.

If you need help or are confused by the instructions on the video, we are offering one on one meetings. In these meetings, we will show you step to step how to stitch masks and answer any questions you might have. If you are interested in this, please shoot us an email and we will schedule a time for you.

  1. Check-Ins

At the end of every week, you will need to complete a check-in which records how many masks you have made in that week. This is so that we can keep track of everybody’s count and update our website. We will be responsible for sending you the check-in every week and it will be your responsibility to complete it on time.

  1. Mask Pick-Up

By Sunday of the third week, you should be done with all your masks. If you are not, we will just be collecting the ones you have made so far. We will pick-up your masks either Saturday or Sunday and then the following week, your masks will be donated.
